At present Riyadus Salihat offers the following courses:
1. Tajweed (Intonation)
The art of intonation (Tajweed) is very important, since the correct recitation of the Glorious Qur’an and its preservation is dependent upon it. This art concentrates on developing the recitation expertise of the one reciting the Qur’an, moulding her vocal and harmonic abilities according to the true essence of the Qur’anic Recitation Skills. This course entails acquiring proficiency in reciting according to the most widely read and popular Qira’at (Methodology of Recitation) of Imam 'Aasim Kufi rahmatullahi alayhi as narrated by Imam Hafs rahmatullahi alayhi.
The basic rules related to this Qira’at are imparted to the student studying the preparatory course and in depth to the students who pursue the Alimiyyah course during the initial four years.
2. Alimiyyah (Islamic theology)
This course is spread over five years covering a variety of topics and numerous sciences of Islam. The initial years of this course comprises learning the Arabic language, grammar, syntax, literature, rhetoric, eloquence, jurisprudence and principles of jurisprudence. In the latter years, the students study in depth jurisprudence, Qur’anic sciences and Traditions of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam.
This students are taught both traditional and modern Arabic and similarly modern Urdu.
Note 1: This course has been tailored in a way that sisters have a choice of either pursuing the full alimah degree or study the initial three years of this course, which will acquaint them with enough knowledge to teach up to maktab level.
Note 2: At Riyadus Salihat the minimum pass mark is set at 60% in order to maintain the high standards of education. Any student failing to pass an exam is not allowed to progress further without re-sitting and achieving the pass mark for the particular exam.
3. Further Education
This course has been designed to cater for the needs of sisters over the age of sixteen and to assist them in enhancing their knowledge of Islam. In this course, many aspects of religious and moral life, that every Muslim is required to know in order to fulfil daily needs, such as worship and transaction are throughly covered.
Subjects taught include:
- Qur'an with Tajweed (Intonation)
- Ahaadeeth
- Seerah (Life of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam)
- Teachings of the noble Qur'aan
- Islamic Manners
- Islamic Social Conduct
- Urdu language
- Arabic language
4. Preparatory Course
This course has been designed for students who are not well versed in the Urdu language and would face difficulty in comprehending the lessons if enrolled directly into the Alimiyyah course. Those students who have had no opportunity in acquiring basic lessons in Islam also enrol on to this course. This course is directed solely towards individual needs and does not follow a set syllabus so that the best from every student can come to light.
